The holidays are over and we’re well into the new year. Let’s take a look at what’s been going in in life lately.
We made it, ya’ll. The holidays are over, we survived the new year, and officially launched into a new decade. It’s been a whirlwind of a few months, and so much has happened!
Last time we talked, I had just stepped down from my partnership with Young Living, and I wasn’t really sure where to go from there. I knew my blog was a big part of that, but I had a lot of soul searching to do.
Over that time, I talked about the benefits of using natural products and how to avoid greenwashing. I also shared my family’s favorite essential oils, talked about my most recent yoga retreat, and gave some tips on cooking from scratch! I gave you a huge list of easy weeknight dinners to try, shared some deep stuff about my faith journey, and gave you some awesome new DIYs to try like this one, this one, and this one. Finally, I wrapped it up with a year-in-review.
Still, we haven’t taken much time to connect through the holidays. So, sit back, grab your favorite beverage, and let’s talk about life lately.
I made some big plans for the future
While I was there, I did a lot of soul searching on some dreams I had for the future, and decided to take the leap.
For years now, I’ve held off on furthering my education because I couldn’t decide what direction to take. But that weekend, it hit me. I want to use my aromatherapy knowledge and yoga knowledge to help others.
In a few weeks, I’ll be starting an aromatherapy certification program, and later this year, I’ll begin my yoga teacher training! They’re both a big commitment, but I’m so passionate about both, and really want to push myself in both areas. Naturally, these will affect my personal life a lot, and I’ll be able to start teaching classes locally. But, my hope is also to bring much of that knowledge here to the blog. I already share so much, especially about essential oils, and I hope to become an even better resource for you really soon.
My kids got baptized!
Ya’ll, this one still blows my mind. Last April, we stepped into church for the first time ever as a family, and in November, both of my kids ended up baptized. If I ever doubted that I was making a good decision for my family, it’s completely washed away, now. The kids are so happy in the church, and so is our whole family!
Addie Turned Eleven
Yep. I officially have a pre-teen. In fact, as I write this, I’m waiting on her to talk to me again. Fitting, right?
Parents, trust me when I say, the switch flips fast. Just hold on tight.
But, while the emotions are high, she’s also matured a ton in the last few months. She’s become such a big help, and overall, I’m very aware of what a good kid I have.
Her birthday party was a blast. We decided on a night of pampering for her and her friends with this spa themed birthday party. It was a night of pedicures, face masks, and makeovers. The girls loved it, and if you have a pre-teen girl, I highly suggest giving this party idea some consideration! It was so easy and fun to pull together, and great for the budget, too.
(Okay, I guess since my last update, Willie and I both celebrated birthdays, too, but when you’re in your mid-thirties, it’s way less exciting).
We started gardening again
I used to be a really big gardener. We grew all of our own produce through the spring, summer, and fall, and even had enough to give away!
After I got pregnant with Charlotte, though, it became too much for me to deal with on my own. Willie is gone for long periods of time, especially in the early spring when we really need to be tilling and prepping our garden area. Because of that, we kind of let our garden beds go neglected for a few years.
This year, we met up with a few friends who have actually started doing hydroponics, and I became obsessed. The ability to grow vegetables indoors all year long? Sign me up!
For Christmas, Willie and I agreed to buy the materials we’d need to get started, and so far, everything is taking off fast! Of course, we’re still in the seedling stage, but I’m so optimistic. Stay tuned for a full blog post on the topic once we’ve really got things underway. For now, look how cute these tiny greens are!
We said farewell to too many pets
If you follow me on Instagram at all, you know that we’re a family full of love for animals. At one point, I joked that we had a zoo here.
The last few months have been a rough period for us and our pets. As much as I hate to end one of these posts on a sad note, I couldn’t let these losses slide by.
Farewell, old friends. You will all be so greatly missed.
So, that’s what’s been going on in our life lately. We’ve had a few sad moments, but overall, there have been some pretty cool things happening over here. I’m excited for what this new season is going to bring, especially for me personally, and I can’t wait to share it all with you here on the blog!
